The issue is the Trinity and Jesus' being regarded as God or Son of God. That was the dividing line. So the Messianic issue is not the fundamental dividing line between the faiths.

Number two, there's a different role that the Messiah plays in Christian theology than Jewish theology. The Jewish Messiah is not a savior. It's just a figure that God will send.
