Obviously, Mohammed and his original followers were all illiterate and so the word 35 00:03:24.360 --> 00:03:31.720 Quran means recitation. So it's oral. So there is room for, did he really exist? He's orphaned taken in by an uncle Abu Talib who's a merchant who takes 39 00:03:49.800 --> 00:03:53.560 Mohammed on camera rides to different cities. A guy named Mani said there's little bits of truth in every religion. 41 00:03:59.960 --> 00:04:03.880 Like a pantheist? Yeah. Well, anyway, the Persians were Zoroastrian that believed that paradise was 44 00:04:12.680 --> 00:04:16.280 filled full of virgins that would fulfill all the guy's desires. What a place. 45 00:04:16.360 --> 00:04:20.680 Well, Mohammed heard that and he put it into his belief system. The Zoroastrians believed in 46 00:04:20.680 --> 00:04:25.000 gyms or genies like a thousand one Arabian nights. And then there's the pagans. The most popular was who balled the moon God. And their calendar began with the first 49 00:04:33.800 --> 00:04:38.120 site of the crescent moon over the desert. That's right. They had a rock they thought had fallen 50 00:04:38.120 --> 00:04:42.360 from the moon. It's a glass impact rock where media or hit the desert sands. And these 51 00:04:42.360 --> 00:04:47.320 pagans would kiss this rock walk around it, bow to it for centuries. And Mohammed kissed that rock. 52 00:04:47.320 --> 00:04:51.400 And that practice got incorporated into his belief system. There were the subbeans that were 53 00:04:51.400 --> 00:04:56.920 into chopping off arms and legs. And that got into and then there's the Jewish faith. There's no other book that has these stories other than this Infancy 61 00:05:30.760 --> 00:05:34.600 Gospel that no scholar takes serious because of all the years. But Mohammed heard those stories 62 00:05:34.680 --> 00:05:41.320 and now they're incorporated into Islam. So he is 25. He marries a wealthy widow, 63 00:05:41.320 --> 00:05:47.080 could digest. He's 40. He does not have to work. And then a movement sweeps through 64 00:05:47.080 --> 00:05:51.800 called monasticism where the Christians would give away their money and live in a cave 65 00:05:51.800 --> 00:05:58.680 as a hermit. And so that's when Mohammed went to a cave and prayed and a spirit appeared to him 66 00:05:58.680 --> 00:06:02.840 and commanded him to read. And he said, I cannot read. And people say, how can somebody that's illiterate memorize these 68 00:06:07.000 --> 00:06:13.000 verses? Well, in Arabic they had a little rhyme to them, a little beat. Very similar to rap music. 69 00:06:13.000 --> 00:06:17.480 Yeah. So maybe there's a student that can't read, but they memorize rap songs. He goes back to his wife, Kadija, and she decides to test the spirit. 72 00:06:32.760 --> 00:06:39.800 She says, can you tell me when this visitant comes? And so she has Mohammed sit on her left thigh 73 00:06:40.360 --> 00:06:44.920 and says, can you see the spirit? And he goes, yes, over there. And then she has him sit on her 74 00:06:44.920 --> 00:06:49.960 right thigh and say, can you see the spirit? Yes, over there. Then she has him sit on her lap and 75 00:06:49.960 --> 00:06:54.840 she begins to disclose her form and says, can you see the spirit? And he goes, no. That was the test that Mohammed used to decide whether the spirit appearing to him 78 00:07:03.800 --> 00:07:08.280 was from God. Well, she takes him Mohammed to her cousin, who's an Ebony night Christian priest. 82 00:07:27.320 --> 00:07:33.560 Ebonyism is this heresy that says Jesus less than God. He says, maybe this is the spirit that appeared 83 00:07:33.560 --> 00:07:40.200 to Moses. And then he dies. And Mohammed is left with the spirit for 15 years. And he thinks there's something in his new faith for everyone, something for the Jews, 85 00:07:47.800 --> 00:07:51.320 something for the Christians, something for the Zoroastrians, something for the pagans, and nobody 86 00:07:51.320 --> 00:07:59.320 likes it. And he gets confrontational. And in 619 AD, when his wife Kadija dies, his uncle Abu Talib dies, 87 00:07:59.320 --> 00:08:03.720 who is his protector, they chase him out of town. He tries going to al-Tahif. They had a one of them, 88 00:08:03.720 --> 00:08:09.080 they pelten with rocks and stones. So in 622, he goes north to Medina. That's right. Three Jewish tribes 89 00:08:09.080 --> 00:08:14.120 led him in and they have intertribal warfare. They had like trumped arrangements in them. They like 90 00:08:14.120 --> 00:08:20.200 hate each other so much. But anyway, they're tolerant and they let Mohammed in. And so Mohammed 91 00:08:20.200 --> 00:08:25.880 goes into the minority. So he's the first ever Muslim immigrant. That's right. He goes into the 92 00:08:25.880 --> 00:08:30.440 minority neighborhoods and he organizes a following. It's sort of like a community organizer. And 93 00:08:30.440 --> 00:08:36.040 he gets in the refugee camps, so to speak. Yeah. And then he becomes a political leader. He pressures 94 00:08:36.040 --> 00:08:42.280 the Jews to a treaty. And then his followers in mecca get confrontational. They get chased out 95 00:08:42.280 --> 00:08:48.360 of town. Now there's lots of Muslim immigrants. Jews are tolerant. Let them in as lots of refugees. 96 00:08:48.360 --> 00:08:53.960 And Mohammed allows them to rob the caravans headed back to mecca in retaliation for the meccans 97 00:08:53.960 --> 00:08:57.960 chasing them out. So where Jesus said, if they take your goat, give him your shirt, his attitude 98 00:08:57.960 --> 00:09:03.400 was victimhood. We're the victims. They were intolerant of us. Therefore, we're justified in 99 00:09:03.400 --> 00:09:12.200 attacking the caravans. Really built on a disgruntled disenfranchised grudge. And so that went into the victimhood went into the DNA of Islam. And so the meccans send a thousand soldiers to escort their caravan and Mohammed with 107 00:09:52.760 --> 00:09:58.760 300 defeats a thousand at the Battle of Badra in 624 AD. He takes this as confirmation that Allah wants him to be a military leader. 109 00:10:03.000 --> 00:10:07.720 Fight some 66 battles and raids in the next eight years killing an estimated 3000 people. 110 00:10:07.720 --> 00:10:13.800 So Mohammed himself went from a religious Muslim to a political Muslim to a militant Muslim. 111 00:10:13.800 --> 00:10:18.200 So those that want to follow him follow him religiously politically. He was also a political and a military leader. Yeah. There's some sort of continuity they sense or feel.
