I'm going to hold it 22 00:01:54.860 --> 00:02:00.860 up the first thing because we all grow up on In-N-Out Burger here. I wanted to take a bite 23 00:02:00.860 --> 00:02:06.860 out of the book. But before we do that, it's my understanding 26 00:02:14.860 --> 00:02:21.860 that you became President of In-N-Out Burger 2010. So, that's been a long time. Even though 27 00:02:21.860 --> 00:02:26.860 you're a young woman, that's been a long time. So, you inherited this amazing work of your 28 00:02:26.860 --> 00:02:31.860 family and you were, what, in your early 20s, I think it was. Something like that? 29 00:02:31.860 --> 00:02:39.860 Yeah, well, I was 17 when my dad died. And so, from that time on, you know, it was trustees. 30 00:02:39.860 --> 00:02:46.860 And when I was 18, I was already in the office, immersed in the business. And, yeah, so when I was 31 00:02:46.860 --> 00:02:49.860 27, it was when I became the President. 32 00:02:49.860 --> 00:02:55.860 Yeah, absolutely amazing. And so, we know as the end user, and this is something that I'm 33 00:02:55.860 --> 00:03:00.860 dying to ask you. And we can back up and pick up on some things, but I want to get this out. 34 00:03:00.860 --> 00:03:07.860 In an age and in a time when so much in America, when it comes to the service industry, 35 00:03:07.860 --> 00:03:13.860 has waned, faded. Frankly, many of it has just fallen apart. 36 00:03:13.860 --> 00:03:19.860 How is it that you guys literally not only kept your standards during COVID, 37 00:03:19.860 --> 00:03:24.860 when so many businesses compromised, I honestly mean this. 38 00:03:24.860 --> 00:03:30.860 Everywhere we went, there was a change in the product. You guys didn't change at all. 39 00:03:30.860 --> 00:03:37.860 Your staff was even more gracious. Your employees, which you have nearly 40,000 employees, 40 00:03:37.860 --> 00:03:43.860 they were amazing. And your product didn't skip a beat. How did you guys maintain that? 41 00:03:43.860 --> 00:03:46.860 How did you keep that strong? 42 00:03:46.860 --> 00:03:57.860 Well, we have very high standards, and we don't compromise those standards in our values. 43 00:03:57.860 --> 00:04:03.860 Just sticking with what my grandparents started and continuing to do those things. 44 00:04:03.860 --> 00:04:10.860 There's been temptations through the years. This is cheaper. This is easier. This is easier to get. 45 00:04:10.860 --> 00:04:17.860 And we've just said no. So business is usual. 46 00:04:17.860 --> 00:04:21.860 Somewhat, we had a lot of obstacles during those times. 47 00:04:21.860 --> 00:04:28.860 We made it tough to have the interaction that we like to have in our service. 48 00:04:28.860 --> 00:04:33.860 Because we are known for our customer service and the friendliness and the smiles. 49 00:04:33.860 --> 00:04:39.860 A time where you couldn't see the smiles was tough and kind of hurt our atmosphere a little bit, 50 00:04:39.860 --> 00:04:45.860 because we say that the smiles are part of your uniform. 51 00:04:45.860 --> 00:04:55.860 Lots of training. We do lots of training. We invest a lot of time in just really bringing in our new hires up to speed 52 00:04:55.860 --> 00:05:05.860 with what it announced all about, and the culture, and the family parts, and the quality, the cleanliness, the friendliness. 53 00:05:05.860 --> 00:05:12.860 So there's a lot that goes into it. They work really hard, and I work really hard to keep it all intact. 54 00:05:12.860 --> 00:05:20.860 That's true. And I've heard that from others as well. It's amazing here at the church I pastor, there's a lot of young people. 55 00:05:20.860 --> 00:05:27.860 So it's really great to hear them say, I'm going to get a job in and out. That's how iconic you guys are. 56 00:05:27.860 --> 00:05:34.860 But beyond that, it's not just about the amazing experience and the taste and the quality. 57 00:05:34.860 --> 00:05:43.860 You guys have such high standards that has resonated where people, no matter what their experience is, they know what's good when they have it. 58 00:05:43.860 --> 00:05:49.860 So we have friends that come from out of the country, whatever might be, and then one of the first things we do is introduce them to in and out. 59 00:05:49.860 --> 00:05:53.860 That's just part of the baptism of Southern California culture. 60 00:05:53.860 --> 00:06:06.860 But always there is this level of quality and of commitment, and we've all spied on your staff when we're at the restaurants or driving through, 61 00:06:06.860 --> 00:06:12.860 what am I telling you for? Maybe a quarter of your building corner is glass. 62 00:06:12.860 --> 00:06:19.860 So you can see the guys and gals making the incredible French fries and doing all this stuff they do, and no one's standing around. 63 00:06:19.860 --> 00:06:25.860 It's not like it's a union job or some government job. People are moving, and they're really making it happen. 64 00:06:25.860 --> 00:06:32.860 And I honestly, to me, that's amazing, because it's at every in and out store, which are what? 65 00:06:32.860 --> 00:06:35.860 Over 375 stores, I think? 66 00:06:35.860 --> 00:06:37.860 390 stores. 67 00:06:37.860 --> 00:06:42.860 And growing, sale fast, we're growing, we're at 375. 68 00:06:42.860 --> 00:06:55.860 Every store is the same experience, which uniformity, everybody knows in business, and you kind of want it even in production or in church work, is everyone needs to be treated the same. 69 00:06:56.860 --> 00:07:07.860 I know this sounds almost kind of crazy, but you don't think it's crazy, and that is there's actually some sort of a 19, graciousness from God upon this vision that your family started. 70 00:07:07.860 --> 00:07:18.860 And so why the book? What's with the book? Why did Lindsey Snyder think or be driven to write this beautiful book? What's inside here? 71 00:07:18.860 --> 00:07:35.860 Well, it's really the in and out story. My grandfather's vision and the partnership between him and my grandmother, and a little bit of their history, and they both came from very humble and somewhat sad beginnings. 72 00:07:35.860 --> 00:07:50.860 I'm pretty sure my grandfather, Harry's father, told him he would never do anything great, and so there's a lot of neat stories within the history for my family. 73 00:07:50.860 --> 00:08:13.860 We have such a following of customers and loyal customers, and there's been a lot of stuff that's gone out through over time, and I just thought, wow, I'd love to be able to tell the in and out story, the true in and out story, bring people inside, and also the timing doing it when we're celebrating 75 years. 74 00:08:13.860 --> 00:08:31.860 So let me ask you this, when it comes to the pressures I would think in business too, and you kind of alluded to the moment ago, maybe compromise here, we can get these cheaper, so how about that? 75 00:08:31.860 --> 00:08:40.860 How do you maintain? You said you have these standards, and everybody knows that, but how do you get people to stay true to those standards? This is almost like a swearing note. 76 00:08:40.860 --> 00:08:51.860 It's remarkable to maintain, so how do you ensure, how do you guarantee those standards? 77 00:08:51.860 --> 00:09:11.860 No, it's only God, the only answer I could give you. It's Him and something He put inside of me to protect. I feel like I'm a very protective person, but I don't know. 78 00:09:11.860 --> 00:09:23.860 We know we have the Holy Spirit, we have a conscience, but there's just something that hits me when we come to certain decisions, and I say, no, we can't, and I know it's Him. 79 00:09:23.860 --> 00:09:40.860 That is very true. You're a woman of convictions, you're uncompromising. It's for you to say not me, but I do know enough about you, from what we've talked about, that the bumps in life that have come your way, they could have destroyed 80 00:09:40.860 --> 00:09:50.860 and those kinds of bumps do destroy people, and it's actually made you a better person because our God is a redemptive God, and He turns things around. 81 00:09:50.860 --> 00:09:59.860 And so your stronger for it, and what's amazing to me is that if anybody were to see you on the street, they would say, oh, there's a so-called surf girl. 82 00:09:59.860 --> 00:10:12.860 They have no idea that your business savvy, again, you give all credit to God, which is why we're sitting here together right now, but God has given you a business savvy vision. 83 00:10:13.860 --> 00:10:26.860 He has given you that lion heart as a word to defend, but your passions do not rise and fall on in and out burger. 84 00:10:26.860 --> 00:10:37.860 I mean this with all due respect. If Paul the Apostle preached the gospel to the world that he experienced, occasionally he built tents, right? 85 00:10:37.860 --> 00:10:43.860 He made tents as a source of income to keep the ministry going. 86 00:10:43.860 --> 00:10:59.860 I included the world looks at you and they know from your story. She happens to be the the heir of the in and out burger dynasty and all, but it's not what makes her heart beat. 87 00:10:59.860 --> 00:11:05.860 That you have incredible passions that I think the world is going to hear more about. 88 00:11:05.860 --> 00:11:13.860 But would you mind sharing some of those things? I know some of the things that we've talked about. Can you tell us what causes that heart to be it on the inside? 89 00:11:13.860 --> 00:11:26.860 I think internet is for sure part of my ministry and part of my con, but it doesn't define me. It's not my identity. 90 00:11:26.860 --> 00:11:41.860 I feel completely called to speak truth, to stand up for what's right, for righteousness, and I know just in personal ministry, I feel like a little bit of a sheep dog. 91 00:11:41.860 --> 00:11:54.860 I'm kind of the one biting people's ankles, so they love me one moment. I can't see I'm used to it. I don't know if anyone's ever fully used to it. 92 00:11:54.860 --> 00:12:06.860 But in ministry at least I am familiar with it because you lose people when you speak truth sometimes to them. 93 00:12:06.860 --> 00:12:18.860 It's true, but at the end of the day, you'd rather lay your head down on the pillow being true to the conviction rather than the compromise. 94 00:12:18.860 --> 00:12:34.860 Love is the ultimate goal and it is what makes my heart my day everything is just knowing that God's love saved me, God's love redeemed me, and his grace of love. 95 00:12:34.860 --> 00:12:42.860 So for me, I want to carry that to the world and sometimes it's unpopular. 96 00:12:42.860 --> 00:12:49.860 Well, it's unpopular because if you came presenting that grace and that love and some other name, nobody really care. 97 00:12:49.860 --> 00:13:10.860 But the moment that Jesus is found out to be in your life, in your book, or for those of you who don't know, if you go to In and Out Burger, which I love this, and you look under the cup through the wrapping, the French fry holder, whatever it might be. 98 00:13:10.860 --> 00:13:20.860 Yeah, the boat. You're going to find Bible verses that have been there. Was that originally, when did that come in? Was it with your uncle? 99 00:13:20.860 --> 00:13:28.860 We traced it down. We believe it was actually 1988 that my uncle started putting it on the packet. 100 00:13:28.860 --> 00:13:38.860 And then you've added some Bible verses. Did you have to get like board approval or corporate? You just did it. 101 00:13:38.860 --> 00:13:42.860 I love it. You just did it. 102 00:13:42.860 --> 00:13:57.860 So what I know about Jesus Christ is Isaiah 9.6, which talks about Jesus Christ in the Old Testament, about being the Savior of the world, the Messiah, the governments of the nations rest upon his shoulders. He's the Almighty God, the counselor, the wonderful one. 103 00:13:57.860 --> 00:14:08.860 You're bold out there with your witness. And yet we know for a fact, so do you, that atheist go to In and Out Burger. The product is so good that you just have to go. 104 00:14:08.860 --> 00:14:20.860 And I love how that's a reflection of God's goodness to your family. And your family has gone through its experiences. It ties in its lows. 105 00:14:20.860 --> 00:14:30.860 And for those, even though now you're not limited to Southern California, you're in like five or seven states. Seven states now. 106 00:14:30.860 --> 00:14:41.860 More and more people are hearing about what makes In and Out Burger work. And so what about this? What would you say to someone today that is thinking, you know what? 107 00:14:41.860 --> 00:14:59.860 I've had fear. I've had others. I've had abuse. Define my life. I guess this is me. I guess it's just my plight in life. Almost kind of giving up without giving up. What would you say to somebody who's just doesn't see a purpose to go on? 108 00:14:59.860 --> 00:15:19.860 Yeah, well, I think the first thing I would tell them is that God's not finished with them and that He loves them. And that, you know, I probably share a lot of my story, a lot of my failures or times where I felt, you know, that there was no hope for me to do anything good with my life. 109 00:15:19.860 --> 00:15:36.860 And, you know, just share that, you know, there's absolute hope in that, you know, I believe sharing other testimonies, your own and others just kind of charges people in it. There's power in that. 110 00:15:36.860 --> 00:15:52.860 And so, you know, it makes me very sad to encounter people like that, but honestly, they're everywhere. And so, you know, us being faithful to have those conversations in the first place and just taking the time. 111 00:15:52.860 --> 00:16:02.860 And, you know, I send scriptures. Sometimes people that don't even really believe, I still send them scriptures. And I almost act like they believe. 112 00:16:02.860 --> 00:16:12.860 It's a good word because, you know, when you treat unbelievers like believers, they have a tendency to become believers. Just treat them like a believer. 113 00:16:12.860 --> 00:16:17.860 Yeah. Instead of feeling like there's a division, I just kind of bring them. 114 00:16:17.860 --> 00:16:19.860 I love that. 115 00:16:19.860 --> 00:16:21.860 Like, I'm acting like they know what I'm talking about. 116 00:16:21.860 --> 00:16:25.860 I think that's the wisdom of God. I believe that as well. I teach that as well. 117 00:16:25.860 --> 00:16:35.860 Yeah. Have you, have you, to your knowledge, have you ever heard of anyone at in and out, throughout wherever the Empire coming to Christ? 118 00:16:35.860 --> 00:16:36.860 Oh, yes. 119 00:16:36.860 --> 00:16:38.860 Really? Can you share something about that? 120 00:16:38.860 --> 00:16:54.860 Well, I've had, I've had a few managers that I've led to the Lord. And there's been conversations with different people, whether it's a manager or a division manager's wife sometimes. 121 00:16:54.860 --> 00:17:07.860 There's, gosh, I'm trying to think. I mean, just our VP team alone, we've all committed to some core values for our team as leaders. 122 00:17:07.860 --> 00:17:10.860 And so starting our meetings with prayer. 123 00:17:10.860 --> 00:17:18.860 And, you know, we rotate who starts each one of our meetings, but whoever's last is the one that we build up. 124 00:17:18.860 --> 00:17:25.860 So we all go around the room and affirm them and say things we love about them. So we've incorporated faith as of this year. 125 00:17:25.860 --> 00:17:33.860 I made prayer and us sending each other scriptures and just encouraging one another a thing. 126 00:17:33.860 --> 00:17:39.860 So even our VP teams actually really, really growing closer to the Lord. 127 00:17:39.860 --> 00:17:47.860 That's amazing. With what you just said, what if there's a business owner right now who's a believer? 128 00:17:47.860 --> 00:17:53.860 But he works, or he has a company, he's a, he created and established it different. 129 00:17:53.860 --> 00:18:02.860 And now he's wanting to get things more like in and out, where he wants to introduce that kind of love that God can spread through the believer. 130 00:18:02.860 --> 00:18:08.860 What would you say to him or her? How did they start that when it was not part of their culture? 131 00:18:08.860 --> 00:18:14.860 What would you say to them as a corporate leader? This is how you could start to do that. 132 00:18:14.860 --> 00:18:22.860 I think the way that I started it was with humility, just sharing my mistakes, sharing my weaknesses. 133 00:18:22.860 --> 00:18:32.860 And then we started teaching servant leadership, we started teaching, you know, the story of the shepherd. 134 00:18:32.860 --> 00:18:42.860 And, you know, I think there's just, there's so many, there's so many valuable lessons in the Bible that people can just, whether they're a believer or not, they can learn from. 135 00:18:42.860 --> 00:19:02.860 And so, you know, just sprinkling that stuff in, and then, you know, being super open, you know, I think being vulnerable is scary for people because, you know, they didn't go, I'm going to be, I'm going to be misjudged or they're going to think I'm not strong. 136 00:19:02.860 --> 00:19:12.860 If I share my weaknesses and, and I tell them it's just the opposite, it takes strength to put that stuff out there because, because people are going to judge. 137 00:19:12.860 --> 00:19:21.860 So, you either say, I don't care or, you know, you let that fear keep you from being free. 138 00:19:21.860 --> 00:19:28.860 Well, isn't it true that people are actually, and maybe we are too, without knowing constantly judging, we're constantly making assessments. 139 00:19:28.860 --> 00:19:30.860 It's just human nature. 140 00:19:30.860 --> 00:19:40.860 But you're saying a powerful thing because you mentioned which is the key model of Jesus, and that is servant leadership. 141 00:19:40.860 --> 00:19:44.860 I mean, most of the world has no idea, what do you mean, talking about servant leadership, what is that? 142 00:19:44.860 --> 00:19:53.860 It's so leading by example that you're willing to do the job first. I know that you started out as an associate, and that's doing the work first. 143 00:19:53.860 --> 00:20:05.860 And so, in life, if you see a leader, I mean, Jesus himself modeled it so perfectly when at the end of his earthly ministry, just before he goes to the cross, you would think that that's the time to flex. 144 00:20:05.860 --> 00:20:10.860 And what does he do? He gets on his knees and he washes the disciples' feet. 145 00:20:10.860 --> 00:20:14.860 There's no greater picture than that being lived out. 146 00:20:14.860 --> 00:20:22.860 Listen, Lindsay, with your permission, can you share with us some of the other things that you're involved in? 147 00:20:22.860 --> 00:20:28.860 There's a lot of work that you do that the world's not aware of. 148 00:20:28.860 --> 00:20:36.860 I don't know, maybe you want the world to not be aware of it, but you do not sit idle. 149 00:20:36.860 --> 00:20:49.860 You are out there on the edge, especially now, with the danger of child abduction going on in kidnapping and trafficking. 150 00:20:49.860 --> 00:20:52.860 Talk to us about that. 151 00:20:52.860 --> 00:21:06.860 Yeah, slave to nothing is one of our foundations that we've started nonprofit that we've started and targeting to fight both substance abuse and human trafficking. 152 00:21:06.860 --> 00:21:20.860 And there's just too much help there from illegal drugs to all the prescription drugs to things that are now making legal. 153 00:21:20.860 --> 00:21:30.860 It's just an alcohol addiction. It's just terrible. And it tears families apart. It kills people. It's very destructive. 154 00:21:30.860 --> 00:21:40.860 I experienced that losing my father, young. My husband experienced that losing his younger brother at age 23. 155 00:21:40.860 --> 00:21:48.860 So for us, we're all in that fight to make a difference. 156 00:21:48.860 --> 00:21:55.860 With the human trafficking piece, I've shared this before, but it's just, it's something God literally dropped on my lap. 157 00:21:55.860 --> 00:22:08.860 I did not know and did not think, oh, this is something I'm going to be involved in. It was just when we were starting to form the foundation, it was like, you're going to fight this too. 158 00:22:09.860 --> 00:22:18.860 So we had some advice that, oh, you need to focus on one cause. You can't have two. Well, God says two, so we're doing two. 159 00:22:18.860 --> 00:22:21.860 You made the number two. 160 00:22:21.860 --> 00:22:31.860 So yeah, but we're helping hundreds of different boots on the ground organizations that are fighting both of these causes. 161 00:22:31.860 --> 00:22:40.860 And in and out puts the money forward for all of our events. So when people are donating, that money is going directly to help and save lives. 162 00:22:41.860 --> 00:22:58.860 I know. Is this a certain time of the year, to be honest with you, I didn't pay attention, but when you pull up, for those of you who don't know, in and out burger is so dynamic and prolific that you get served before you ever get to the building. 163 00:22:58.860 --> 00:23:05.860 Because you guys pretty much take over parking lots where the sociators out there taking the orders, right? 164 00:23:05.860 --> 00:23:19.860 And I remember just waiting in line, pulling up, pulling up, pulling up, which if I remember right in and out was California's first drive through a restaurant or diner like that, which is historic, what, 1948? 165 00:23:19.860 --> 00:23:21.860 Yeah. 166 00:23:21.860 --> 00:23:33.860 But you had, you had stanchions or signs saying something about human trafficking, how you can help, how you can participate in human trafficking. 167 00:23:33.860 --> 00:23:43.860 Thanks. So it's very, very public. It's very, very part of the extended love and commitment that in and out has beyond. 168 00:23:44.860 --> 00:23:59.860 Just serving up a great product. What can Lindsay tell us about other passions? I mean, if you can't think of any, I know some of yours and I will bring them up because I share a few of those things. 169 00:23:59.860 --> 00:24:06.860 But who's Lindsay outside the corporate boardroom in the restaurant business? 170 00:24:06.860 --> 00:24:14.860 Well, I think there's a lot. There's a lot of different things. I feel like I'm 41, but I feel like I'm a lot, I have like a old soul. 171 00:24:14.860 --> 00:24:19.860 Like a lot, you know. But we're talking hobbies, ministry. 172 00:24:19.860 --> 00:24:25.860 I'm talking about some of the amazing passions you have for speed, for cars. 173 00:24:25.860 --> 00:24:32.860 There's some guys behind these cameras that are major car guys also. Where did that come from? 174 00:24:32.860 --> 00:24:36.860 I mean, you like driving fast and you and you've got some fast toys. 175 00:24:36.860 --> 00:24:49.860 Yeah, my dad loved drag racing. He built cars when he was young and his dad, my grandfather, actually was a part owner of the original R1 Dale Speedway way back when. 176 00:24:49.860 --> 00:24:56.860 So my dad was super young, testing his cars there and racing. 177 00:24:56.860 --> 00:25:05.860 So that love was just there for me from the beginning because I would watch my dad work on his cars and he'd take me for a ride when he was done. 178 00:25:05.860 --> 00:25:10.860 It was just going to Pomona to the drag races when I was little. 179 00:25:10.860 --> 00:25:15.860 You know, there's something about you either have it or you don't, you know, and I just have always loved it. 180 00:25:15.860 --> 00:25:25.860 And I didn't get to actually start racing until after he passed away. building this army up, we're wanting to deploy, you know, right now we have little, you know, people going out and helping others and connecting and making those connections, honestly, across the 00:30:45.860 And so when unbelievers or believers are asking for help, you know, then we can be there for them. 269 00:30:45.860 --> 00:31:00.860 And my heart is big for people that are in leadership because I understand that leaders do not want to necessarily show their weaknesses because they're afraid of people not following them or trusting them. 270 00:31:00.860 --> 00:31:06.860 And I think
