47 00:02:31.900 --> 00:02:33.900 You ask the Lord to help. 48 00:02:33.900 --> 00:02:34.900 Maybe try to study it out. 49 00:02:34.900 --> 00:02:35.900 And then you keep reading. 50 00:02:35.900 --> 00:02:37.900 You can't get stuck in God. 51 00:02:37.900 --> 00:02:39.900 I'm going to stop reading because it's part I don't understand. 52 00:02:39.900 --> 00:02:41.900 But after reading at a couple of times, 53 00:02:41.900 --> 00:02:43.900 through I got to the place where I said, 54 00:02:43.900 --> 00:02:46.900 all right, I don't want to skip entire chapters 55 00:02:46.900 --> 00:02:49.900 because I don't know what in the world is guys talking about. 56 00:02:49.900 --> 00:02:52.900 I'm going to do the work with the Lord and dig in. 57 00:02:52.900 --> 00:02:54.900 And that's what I invite you to do. 58 00:02:54.900 --> 00:02:55.900 And may you dig in. 59 00:02:55.900 --> 00:03:01.900 Think your teeth into the glorious truths contained in the book of Hebrews. 60 00:03:01.900 --> 00:03:02.900 Hallelujah. 61 00:03:02.900 --> 00:03:04.900 Well, Hebrews chapter five is what we're up to. 62 00:03:04.900 --> 00:03:11.900 Remember Hebrews is a book or letter written to a very disgruntled group of people. 63 00:03:11.900 --> 00:03:14.900 A despondent community of Christians. 64 00:03:14.900 --> 00:03:16.900 They were persecuted. 65 00:03:16.900 --> 00:03:18.900 They were in a sad place. 66 00:03:18.900 --> 00:03:19.900 And they were pushed. 67 00:03:19.900 --> 00:03:22.900 And they're on the verge of quitting. 68 00:03:22.900 --> 00:03:24.900 Quitting what you say. 69 00:03:24.900 --> 00:03:26.900 Literally quitting their Christianity. 70 00:03:26.900 --> 00:03:29.900 Or on the verge of apostasy. 71 00:03:29.900 --> 00:03:31.900 Abandoning Jesus and abandoning the faith. 72 00:03:31.900 --> 00:03:33.900 That's how bad it got. 73 00:03:33.900 --> 00:03:38.900 And the letter of Hebrews is how somebody with apostolic authority 74 00:03:38.900 --> 00:03:41.900 would address the community in a people group like that. 75 00:03:41.900 --> 00:03:43.900 What he would say to them. 76 00:03:43.900 --> 00:03:46.900 Let's begin Hebrews chapter five, verse one. 77 00:03:46.900 --> 00:03:50.900 For every high priest, 78 00:03:50.900 --> 00:03:58.900 taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God. 79 00:03:58.900 --> 00:04:03.900 That he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. 80 00:04:03.900 --> 00:04:07.900 And the idea is that he could have compassion. 81 00:04:07.900 --> 00:04:11.900 So you had under the mosaic law, under the Old Testament, 82 00:04:11.900 --> 00:04:17.900 you had lots and lots of priests, but you had one high priest. 83 00:04:17.900 --> 00:04:21.900 They all performed sacrifices offered up gifts to the Lord. 84 00:04:21.900 --> 00:04:24.900 The high priest was the main guy in charge. 85 00:04:24.900 --> 00:04:27.900 He didn't get to campaign for that position. 86 00:04:27.900 --> 00:04:32.900 You didn't like go up the corporate ladder to get that position. 87 00:04:32.900 --> 00:04:35.900 That was given by God himself. 88 00:04:35.900 --> 00:04:38.900 And the idea was that in offering up the sacrifice, 89 00:04:38.900 --> 00:04:40.900 he wasn't just a meat cutter. 90 00:04:40.900 --> 00:04:42.900 It wasn't just a butcher. 91 00:04:42.900 --> 00:04:45.900 But he actually had compassion. 92 00:04:45.900 --> 00:04:52.900 And he understood even his outfit was designed in a way with the 12 tribes of Israel's names on his shoulders. 93 00:04:52.900 --> 00:04:55.900 It was designed in a way to remind him of the people. 94 00:04:55.900 --> 00:04:59.900 He's doing this for the people. 95 00:04:59.900 --> 00:05:03.900 Two, he can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray 96 00:05:03.900 --> 00:05:08.900 since he himself is also subject to weakness. 97 00:05:08.900 --> 00:05:12.900 Because of this, he's required as for the people, 98 00:05:12.900 --> 00:05:17.900 so also for himself, to remind him that he's just a human, 99 00:05:17.900 --> 00:05:20.900 to offer sacrifices for sins. 100 00:05:20.900 --> 00:05:22.900 And no man takes this honor to himself, 101 00:05:22.900 --> 00:05:28.900 but he who is called by God just as Aaron was. 102 00:05:28.900 --> 00:05:31.900 Now I want you to know that everybody here, 103 00:05:31.900 --> 00:05:34.900 everybody on planet earth needs a priest. 104 00:05:34.900 --> 00:05:36.900 Did you know that? 105 00:05:36.900 --> 00:05:38.900 You didn't know that. 106 00:05:38.900 --> 00:05:39.900 I'm glad I could tell you. 107 00:05:39.900 --> 00:05:41.900 You need a priest. 108 00:05:41.900 --> 00:05:44.900 If you don't have one, you've come to the right place. 109 00:05:44.900 --> 00:05:48.900 You get yourself one. 110 00:05:48.900 --> 00:05:55.900 How are you going to approach a holy, untouchable God without a priest? billion people that have priests. 140 00:07:18.900 --> 00:07:22.900 Yet the only priest you're supposed to have is Jesus Christ. 141 00:07:22.900 --> 00:07:26.900 The Bible says there is one mediator between God and man. 142 00:07:26.900 --> 00:07:29.900 The man, capital and Christ Jesus. 143 00:07:29.900 --> 00:07:31.900 There's only one bridge maker. 144 00:07:31.900 --> 00:07:35.900 So I don't need saints to go through. 145 00:07:35.900 --> 00:07:38.900 I don't need Mary to go through. 146 00:07:38.900 --> 00:07:39.900 She's not a mediator. 147 00:07:39.900 --> 00:07:41.900 Saints aren't a mediator. 148 00:07:41.900 --> 00:07:43.900 Icons on a wall. 149 00:07:43.900 --> 00:07:45.900 They're not mediating for me. 150 00:07:45.900 --> 00:07:47.900 I'm a mediator, Jesus. 151 00:07:47.900 --> 00:07:50.900 He is mine in yours, high priest. 152 00:07:50.900 --> 00:07:55.900 And this high priest, what's so beautiful is he's 100% man. 153 00:07:55.900 --> 00:07:58.900 So he knows what you go through. 154 00:07:58.900 --> 00:08:01.900 That's what the ideal was of the Old Testament high priest. 155 00:08:01.900 --> 00:08:04.900 Yet you have stories of how they got proud, arrogant anyway, 156 00:08:04.900 --> 00:08:06.900 and still couldn't relate to the people. 157 00:08:06.900 --> 00:08:08.900 Jesus is not that way. 158 00:08:08.900 --> 00:08:09.900 He knows you. 159 00:08:09.900 --> 00:08:10.900 He knows your pain. 160 00:08:10.900 --> 00:08:12.900 He knows your suffering because he became fully man. 161 00:08:12.900 --> 00:08:15.900 Yet listen to this and the characteristics of this high priest. 162 00:08:15.900 --> 00:08:17.900 He's also fully God. 163 00:08:17.900 --> 00:08:21.900 In fact, he is God and he's within the Father. 164 00:08:21.900 --> 00:08:22.900 He's within God. 165 00:08:22.900 --> 00:08:27.900 He said I came out from him and will return to him. 166 00:08:27.900 --> 00:08:31.900 What do you think is happening when you pray Father in the name of Jesus? 167 00:08:31.900 --> 00:08:33.900 You think you're just being poetic? 168 00:08:33.900 --> 00:08:37.900 You're saying Father, Almighty God, I'm praying to you. 169 00:08:37.900 --> 00:08:41.900 I'm talking to you in the name of Jesus, in the name of my high priest. 170 00:08:41.900 --> 00:08:43.900 My bridge maker, my mediator. 171 00:08:43.900 --> 00:08:44.900 I'm coming to you. 172 00:08:44.900 --> 00:08:48.900 How I'm so confident, the God, Almighty, here's every word I say, 173 00:08:48.900 --> 00:08:51.900 is because I offered up always in the name of Jesus. 174 00:08:51.900 living, you've got some false teacher over you. 180 00:09:10.900 --> 00:09:13.900 No, you got a high priest. 181 00:09:13.900 --> 00:09:14.900 Jesus. 182 00:09:14.900 --> 00:09:19.900 No lawsuits against Jesus. 183 00:09:19.900 --> 00:09:22.900 No weird stories you're going to hear in the media. 184 00:09:22.900 --> 00:09:24.900 Very good high priest, hallelujah. 185 00:09:24.900 --> 00:09:26.900 Loves the little children. 186 00:09:32.900 --> 00:09:33.900 You thought that's crazy. 187 00:09:33.900 --> 00:09:36.900 You should have been your first service. 188 00:09:37.900 --> can undertake to manage nothing towards God immediately, 192 00:09:54.900 --> 00:09:58.900 or by himself, but with a mediating priest, 193 00:09:58.900 --> 00:10:01.900 who must know God's mind and performance. 194 00:10:01.900 --> 00:10:06.900 The common sense of mankind about it since the fall, 195 00:10:06.900 --> 00:10:09.900 death, evidence, it, no nation being without a religion, 196 00:10:09.900 --> 00:10:12.900 a temple, a place of worship, or a priest. 197 00:10:12.900 --> 00:10:15.900 Today, we are also prohibited from being our own priest. 198 00:10:15.900 --> 00:10:20.900 It is great arrogance to think we can approach God on our own without a priest. 199 00:10:20.900 --> 00:10:27.900 But it is also great superstition to think we need any priest other than Jesus Christ when the television preacher is preaching, 209 00:10:58.900 --> 00:11:01.900 and then there's the 1-800 number to call, 210 00:11:01.900 --> 00:11:05.900 I was the guy, and we had these phone booths, and I would be managing that. 211 00:11:05.900 --> 00:11:07.900 And I was there from the start. 212 00:11:07.900 --> 00:11:09.900 So I was excited and my early 20s. 213 00:11:09.900 --> 00:11:11.900 I went to what kind of, because I never made the call. 214 00:11:11.900 --> 00:11:15.900 I wonder what kind of people actually call the 800 number for prayer. 215 00:11:15.900 --> 00:11:17.900 Don't you wonder? 216 00:11:17.900 --> 00:11:19.900 Well, I had to fund first few weeks. 217 00:11:19.900 --> 00:11:21.900 I got to know the people who call. 218 00:11:21.900 --> 00:11:23.900 I mean, we had a phone bank. 219 00:11:23.900 --> 00:11:25.900 20, 30 phones are overing and off the hook. 220 00:11:25.900 --> 00:11:26.900 Who's calling? 221 00:11:26.900 --> 00:11:28.900 I got to know them. 222 00:11:28.900 --> 00:11:29.900 I'll tell you who they are. 223 00:11:29.900 --> 00:11:32.900 They would say, can you please pray for me? 224 00:11:32.900 --> 00:11:34.900 But they didn't mean like, I'm praying, 225 00:11:34.900 --> 00:11:36.900 and you link with me and agree with me. 226 00:11:36.900 --> 00:11:38.900 They literally meant, can you pray for me? 227 00:11:38.900 --> 00:11:41.900 Like, my prayers aren't strong, and I don't pray. 228 00:11:41.900 --> 00:11:42.900 So you do it for me. 229 00:11:42.900 --> 00:11:44.900 Can you pray for me? 230 00:11:44.900 --> 00:11:46.900 I'm not praying. 231 00:11:46.900 --> 00:11:48.900 I'm not praying because I'm full of doubt and unbelief. 232 00:11:48.900 --> 00:11:51.900 And secretly, I don't even believe that God hears me. 233 your words to the Father. 265 00:12:57.900 --> 00:13:01.900 He's the high priest of your confession of your words. 266 00:13:01.900 --> 00:13:05.900 That's why when you say Jesus, I receive you as my
