He was violently sick. I'll just leave it at that. Vomiting and everything. I'm going to give you the examples that we find in the scripture of two very particular Christians that represent one of us at any given point. 84 00:08:57.000 --> 00:09:04.000 We have the Apostle Peter. You know him, the one with the foot-shaped mouth. 85 00:09:04.000 --> 00:09:07.000 And we have the Apostle John. 86 00:09:07.000 --> 00:09:14.000 I think the best thing that we could say about John is John is the beloved. We can all agree. 87 00:09:14.000 --> 00:09:20.000 And we're going to juxtapose how they went about their life and how we need to be going about our life. 88 00:09:20.000 --> 00:09:25.000 Let's take this journey. 89 00:09:25.000 --> 00:09:29.000 We're going to start and we're going to go through their lives towards the end of Jesus' life. 90 00:09:29.000 --> 00:09:33.000 We're going to start at the last supper in John 13. 91 00:09:33.000 --> 00:09:39.000 Now, even before we read that, and you can hold it up there, before we read, I need you to understand something. 92 00:09:39.000 --> 00:09:44.000 Because people always look at Peter and go, that's definitely to screw up, so I'm not going to join his side. 93 00:09:44.000 --> 00:09:48.000 I need you to understand something about John the beloved. 94 00:09:48.000 --> 00:09:52.000 John has to screw up. 95 00:09:52.000 --> 00:09:59.000 So here's the thing. We always have this idea of the hierarchy of the disciples because there were three disciples where every Jesus went. 96 00:09:59.000 --> 00:10:05.000 He called the three disciples and we think to ourselves, those are the mature ones, those are the good ones. 97 00:10:05.000 --> 00:10:12.000 I will have you know that the reason why he always left certain disciples and he brought along the three Peter, James and John, 98 00:10:12.000 --> 00:10:18.000 is the same reason that you can trust some of your kids' parents and some of them you can. 99 00:10:19.000 --> 00:10:25.000 See, he would tell team B, all right, y'all hang back, I'm going to go up on the mountain. 100 00:10:25.000 --> 00:10:28.000 Y'all three, come with me. 101 00:10:28.000 --> 00:10:36.000 Because he knows, I leave these three here, I might come down, the whole village might be burnt. 102 00:10:36.000 --> 00:10:42.000 James and John, they had the nickname, the scripture gives them, Bolognese. 103 00:10:42.000 --> 00:10:47.000 When you break down the etymology on Bolognese, it means sons of thunder. 104 00:10:47.000 --> 00:10:57.000 They ran up on some people who were actually preaching the word of God in truth, proclaiming Jesus as Lord. 105 00:10:57.000 --> 00:11:11.000 And these, I was about to use very brisk language just now, these idiots still pretty harsh but they stopped them and said, hey, you're not with us, don't do it. 106 00:11:11.000 --> 00:11:15.000 Now here's the thing that you have to know this, especially in the climate that we live in today. 107 00:11:15.000 --> 00:11:19.000 It does not matter who says what if it's truth. 108 00:11:19.000 --> 00:11:27.000 If the devil came in here today and said, Jesus is Lord, best believe I'm going to be in the front going, amen. 109 00:11:27.000 --> 00:11:39.000 See the problem, we have a big problem today in our generation, somebody tells us truth and we call it painful. 110 00:11:39.000 --> 00:11:43.000 Somebody gives their opinion, we applaud them, we applaud them. 111 00:11:43.000 --> 00:11:51.000 But when somebody gives you good word, don't stop having a fight with the people that are telling you what's good for you. 112 00:11:51.000 --> 00:11:59.000 There are relationships in your life right now that are suffering because all they're trying to do is deliver the truth to you but you can't see the truth for what it is. 113 00:11:59.000 --> 00:12:01.000 All you see is the messenger and you're upset. 114 00:12:01.000 --> 00:12:05.000 Who am I talking to today? He's not perfect but he does have one thing to his credit. 121 00:12:59.000 --> 00:13:05.000 He learned how to appropriate the love of God. I'll show you from the scripture. 122 00:13:05.000 --> 00:13:11.000 John 1321 says, when Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit. 123 00:13:12.000 --> 00:13:19.000 And testified and said, most assuredly I say to you, one of you will betray me. 124 00:13:19.000 --> 00:13:23.000 Then the disciples looked at one another perplexed about whom he spoke. 125 00:13:23.000 --> 00:13:29.000 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom, one of his disciples whom Jesus loved. 126 00:13:29.000 --> 00:13:37.000 If you didn't know and you missed this very hilarious part about scripture, he's speaking specifically about the Apostle John. 127 00:13:38.000 --> 00:13:45.000 But people forget that John is the author of this gospel. Why do you worship? 535 00:35:40.000 --> 00:35:43.000 Religion, it involves self-reliance. 536 00:35:43.000 --> 00:35:52.000 It involves you trying your hardest, your darnest to please God. 537 00:35:52.000 --> 00:35:56.000 But the only problem with that is anything that you start in your own power 538 00:35:56.000 --> 00:35:59.000 has to be maintained in your own power. 539 00:35:59.000 --> 00:36:03.000 And your own power is insufficient. 540 00:36:03.000 --> 00:36:06.000 So here you are in the hamster wheel of religion. 541 00:36:06.000 --> 00:36:08.000 I got a church. 542 00:36:08.000 --> 00:36:09.000 I got to read the word. 543 00:36:09.000 --> 00:36:10.000 I got to pray. 544 00:36:10.000 --> 00:36:11.000 I got to fast. 545 00:36:11.000 --> 00:36:12.000 But I was tired. 546 00:36:12.000 --> 00:36:15.000 And the minute you stop doing the things that you started 547 00:36:15.000 --> 00:36:20.000 because you only started in your own strength to be seen by others in most cases. 548 00:36:20.000 --> 00:36:25.000 And not because you loved God and treasured the privilege that you had. 549 00:36:25.000 --> 00:36:27.000 Because you got to understand something. 550 00:36:27.000 --> 00:36:32.000 I don't pray, read my Bible fast in a 10 church because it looks a certain way. 551 00:36:32.000 --> 00:36:35.000 I do it because I can. 552 00:36:35.000 --> 00:36:37.000 I get to. 553 00:36:37.000 --> 00:36:38.000 It's a privilege. 554 00:36:38.000 --> 00:36:42.000 It's not this thing where I need to do this in order to be loved. 555 00:36:42.000 --> 00:36:44.000 I know that I'm loved. 556 00:36:44.000 --> 00:36:46.000 I know that I'm accepted. 557 00:36:46.000 --> 00:36:48.000 I know that I'm cared for. 558 00:36:48.000 --> 00:36:54.000 Outside of my performance. 559 00:36:54.000 --> 00:37:00.000 So now Peter, having come headlong with the fact that he was not measuring up, 560 00:37:00.000 --> 00:37:02.000 he backslid. 561 00:37:02.000 --> 00:37:05.000 He was no longer there for the Lord the way he promised that he would be. 562 00:37:05.000 --> 00:37:08.000 When all these jokers turned their back on you, 563 00:37:08.000 --> 00:37:10.000 I'm going to be the one standing there, 564 00:37:10.000 --> 00:37:15.000 King Jesus with me at the side like Prince Peter, let's go. 565 00:37:15.000 --> 00:37:18.000 Where was Peter at the cross? 566 00:37:18.000 --> 00:37:21.000 Peter was tucked in a whole weeping. 567 00:37:21.000 --> 00:37:23.000 But where was the beloved one? 568 00:37:23.000 --> 00:37:26.000 You know the imperfect one with the murderous zeal? 569 00:37:26.000 --> 00:37:29.000 The one that truly believed that God loved him despite him? 570 00:37:29.000 --> 00:37:32.000 He was front and center. 571 00:37:32.000 --> 00:37:36.000 Able because here's the thing that this bugles my mind. 572 00:37:36.000 --> 00:37:41.000 Here you have Jesus, the Son of God, God in the flesh, 573 00:37:41.000 --> 00:37:46.000 carrying the sins of the entirety of humanity, 574 00:37:46.000 --> 00:37:49.000 past, present, and future on himself in this moment. 575 00:37:49.000 --> 00:37:52.000 This is cosmically high brow. 576 00:37:52.000 --> 00:37:57.000 And he steps out of that cosmic moment to handle some practical moments on earth. 577 00:37:58.000 --> 00:38:01.000 Wow, if I go and when I go, not if, when I go, 578 00:38:01.000 --> 00:38:04.000 my mom is going to be left in a patriarchal society 579 00:38:04.000 --> 00:38:07.000 where at that point women are not really much more than furniture 580 00:38:07.000 --> 00:38:09.000 and objects, possessions to be had, 581 00:38:09.000 --> 00:38:10.000 and she'll have nobody. 582 00:38:10.000 --> 00:38:12.000 So let me take care of that real quick. 583 00:38:12.000 --> 00:38:14.000 Disciple. 584 00:38:14.000 --> 00:38:17.000 Yeah, you the one who think you all loved and all that, all right. 585 00:38:17.000 --> 00:38:19.000 This is now your mom. 586 00:38:19.000 --> 00:38:22.000 Provide for her, protect her, keep her. 587 00:38:22.000 --> 00:38:24.000 This is now your son. 588 00:38:25.000 --> 00:38:28.000 And you know what his response was, yep. 589 00:38:28.000 --> 00:38:30.000 I do it. 590 00:38:30.000 --> 00:38:32.000 I'll make myself of use to Jesus. 591 00:38:32.000 --> 00:38:36.000 How many people in here that would say yep when God calls you? 621 00:40:21.000 --> 00:40:27.000 Peter seeing him said, Jesus, but Lord, what about this man? 622 00:40:27.000 --> 00:40:30.000 Jesus said to him, if I will, that he remained till I come, 623 00:40:30.000 --> 00:40:36.000 what is that to you? Follow me. 624 00:40:36.000 --> 00:40:41.000 There are beautifully beneficial moments where he will lead you by an unspoken calling, 625 00:40:41.000 --> 00:40:47.000 more like a silent invitation born out of intimacy that results in his pleasure. 626 00:40:47.000 --> 00:40:50.000 See, you have Peter on the right. 627 00:40:50.000 --> 00:40:56.000 So the context for the scripture that we just read, Peter had to be reinstalled back into the faith. 628 00:40:56.000 --> 00:41:00.000 After Jesus died, Peter completely backslides and says, 629 00:41:00.000 --> 00:41:04.000 I'm going back to my old life because I don't know what to do. 630 00:41:04.000 --> 00:41:09.000 I go efficient. 631 00:41:09.000 --> 00:41:12.000 And the crazy part is because of the influence that he's still carried 632 00:41:12.000 --> 00:41:14.000 because the gifts and the callings of God are without repentance. 633 00:41:14.000 --> 00:41:16.000 His boys are like, oh, you going efficient? 634 00:41:16.000 --> 00:41:19.000 You going back to that old life where we come into? 635 00:41:19.000 --> 00:41:21.000 Even the beloved way member. 636 00:41:21.000 --> 00:41:23.000 Backslidden. 637 00:41:23.000 --> 00:41:28.000 Fishing. 638 00:41:28.000 --> 00:41:31.000 He backslides. 639 00:41:31.000 --> 00:41:36.000 So after he's done backsliding, Jesus has to pull him to the side and reinstate him 640 00:41:36.000 --> 00:41:38.000 and tell him what really is. 641 00:41:38.000 --> 00:41:40.000 Because before, he said, you know what? 642 00:41:40.000 --> 00:41:42.000 I'm the one who really loves you. 643 00:41:42.000 --> 00:41:43.000 I love you here. 644 00:41:43.000 --> 00:41:46.000 And really, Jesus had to put him in his place so that he might recognize 645 00:41:46.000 --> 00:41:49.000 this is not about religion. That's my people. 656 00:42:21.000 --> 00:42:25.000 Then you have arrows, which is a romantic love between a husband and a wife. 657 00:42:25.000 --> 00:42:31.000 Then you have a storage, which is more of like a familial love between a mother and a son. 658 00:42:31.000 --> 00:42:36.000 So you've got all these different loves and it's funny because when he restores him, 659 00:42:36.000 --> 00:42:42.000 Jesus asks him, Peter or Simon, son of Jonah, 660 00:42:42.000 --> 00:42:49.000 do you agape me, the zenith level of love, the sacrificial level of love? 661 00:42:49.000 --> 00:42:51.000 Do you have the top brow love for me? 662 00:42:51.000 --> 00:42:53.000 Like you said, you had it before. 663 00:42:53.000 --> 00:42:55.000 Before you let me down and betrayed me. 664 00:42:55.000 --> 00:42:57.000 Do you have it here? 665 00:42:57.000 --> 00:43:01.000 Peter was like, no, sir. 666 00:43:01.000 --> 00:43:03.000 I flail you. 667 00:43:03.000 --> 00:43:04.000 I got a friendship love. 668 00:43:04.000 --> 00:43:05.000 It definitely ain't here. 669 00:43:05.000 --> 00:43:08.000 It's somewhere right here. 670 00:43:08.000 --> 00:43:12.000 You never realize the context until you actually look at the language, 671 00:43:12.000 --> 00:43:16.000 because the Bible says that Peter was grieved when he asked him the third time, 672 00:43:16.000 --> 00:43:19.000 because really, it was like, Peter, do you love me here? 673 00:43:19.000 --> 00:43:21.000 It was like, no, Lord, you know. 674 00:43:21.000 --> 00:43:23.000 I only love you here. 675 00:43:23.000 --> 00:43:25.000 But Peter, do you love me here? 676 00:43:25.000 --> 00:43:28.000 He was like, no, Lord, I'm not relying on myself anymore. 677 00:43:28.000 --> 00:43:32.000 I know that the reality of the situation is I don't love you the way that you love me. 678 00:43:32.000 --> 00:43:34.000 I love you here. 679 00:43:34.000 --> 00:43:41.000 And he reinstates and feed my sheep, feed my lambs, feed the flock. 680 00:43:41.000 --> 00:43:47.000 So now, Jesus reinstates Peter. 681 00:43:47.000 --> 00:43:50.000 And he prophesies to him about his life and his death. 682 00:43:50.000 --> 00:43:52.000 How it will glorify God. 683 00:43:52.000 --> 00:43:55.000 And Peter's still a little bit shaky, because he's just coming out of religion, 684 00:43:55.000 --> 00:43:58.000 so he's still looking around. 685 00:43:58.000 --> 00:44:01.000 Because John doesn't even get all of that. 686 00:44:01.000 --> 00:44:07.000 John gets up understanding his calling without being called. 687 00:44:07.000 --> 00:44:10.000 You know, as a pastor, the number one thing that people come to you 688 00:44:10.000 --> 00:44:13.000 and want to talk about is, what do I do with myself? 689 00:44:13.000 --> 00:44:15.000 What do I do with my life? 690 00:44:15.000 --> 00:44:16.000 My purpose. 691 00:44:16.000 --> 00:44:18.000 What is my calling? 692 00:44:18.000 --> 00:44:23.000 When you're not relying on yourself and yourself efforts, that comes easy. 693 00:44:23.000 --> 00:44:28.000 I think I'm so grateful that I can say this with just great certitude. 694 00:44:28.000 --> 00:44:31.000 I know what my purpose on earth is. 695 00:44:31.000 --> 00:44:36.000 And I've known for many years, but it didn't come out of me trying a whole bunch of things in my own effort. 696 00:44:36.000 --> 00:44:40.000 It came from me going, God, I don't even deserve to be in the building. 697 00:44:40.000 --> 00:44:43.000 Whatever you want to do, let's go. 698 00:44:43.000 --> 00:44:51.000 And in that, God opened up the revelation of who I was meant to be. 699 00:44:51.000 --> 00:45:00.000 That's for some of you today, because John got up and started following. 700 00:45:00.000 --> 00:45:05.000 And Peter was like, you didn't even tell him nothing. 701 00:45:05.000 --> 00:45:06.000 What about him? 702 00:45:06.000 --> 00:45:07.000 Tell him something nice. 703 00:45:07.000 --> 00:45:11.000 He'd been following you this whole time. 704 00:45:11.000 --> 00:45:18.000 And Jesus just being cheeky was like, brah, brah. 705 00:45:18.000 --> 00:45:20.000 Little interesting tidbit. 706 00:45:20.000 --> 00:45:24.000 He tells him, if I want him to stay back until I come, what does that mean to you? 707 00:45:24.000 --> 00:45:26.000 Again, it's not about somebody else's race. 708 00:45:26.000 --> 00:45:33.000 It's about you living with an audience of one, depending on that one audience for your pleasure. 709 00:45:33.000 --> 00:45:40.000 Listen, do not live by the approval of other people because you will die by their rejection. 710 00:45:40.000 --> 00:45:43.000 Live only for the approval of Jesus. 711 00:45:43.000 --> 00:45:45.000 And here's the beautiful part. 712 00:45:45.000 --> 00:45:49.000 You already have it in Jesus. 713 00:45:49.000 --> 00:45:53.000 The blood that God spilled on the cross, it ratifies you. 714 00:45:53.000 --> 00:45:54.000 It sanctifies you. 715 00:45:54.000 --> 00:45:55.000 It separates you. 716 00:45:55.000 --> 00:45:59.000 It makes you his. 717 00:45:59.000 --> 00:46:04.000 You don't have to trust on your own ability to fast and pray and read the Scriptures. 718 00:46:04.000 --> 00:46:07.000 I want every one of you to be masters at doing that. 719 00:46:07.000 --> 00:46:13.000 I want you to enjoy reading the Word of God because his will is in his Word and you'll find direction as you read the Scriptures. 720 00:46:13.000 --> 00:46:15.000 The Holy Spirit will lead you. 721 00:46:15.000 --> 00:46:21.000 I love when you fast and bring the flesh low so that you can better articulate the will of God as he's speaking. 722 00:46:21.000 --> 00:46:23.000 I love when you're here. 723 00:46:23.000 --> 00:46:25.000 I wish there was an attendance carpet. 724 00:46:25.000 --> 00:46:28.000 There's not because we don't believe in that. 725 00:46:28.000 --> 00:46:31.000 Somebody came in and was like, yeah, you know, I've been here every day. 726 00:46:31.000 --> 00:46:33.000 I'm like, when did you get that from? 755 00:48:14.000 --> 00:48:20.000 Well, what you're doing is you're shouting and announcing everything that His cross did for you. 756 00:48:20.000 --> 00:48:23.000 Everything that you could not do for yourself. 757 00:48:23.000 --> 00:48:26.000 You could not find eternal life by yourself. 758 00:48:26.000 --> 00:48:29.000 You could not have supernatural healing by yourself. 759 00:48:29.000 --> 00:48:33.000 You could not receive supernatural provision and finances by yourself. 760 00:48:33.000 --> 00:48:38.000 You could not receive wholeness, enjoy, and stability of emotional sound mind by yourself. 761 00:48:38.000 --> 00:48:44.000 You only gain these things through the cross when He died for you and as you. 762 00:48:44.000 --> 00:48:50.000 So that divine exchange could take place where now you're receiving the righteousness of God. 763 00:48:50.000 --> 00:48:54.000 You've become literally the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. 764 00:48:54.000 --> 00:48:57.000 And He took on your sin. 765 00:48:57.000 --> 00:49:00.000 He took on your death. He took on everything that you deserved. 766 00:49:00.000 --> 00:49:07.000 He was punished for you and now you get to take His perfect record and just live in peace and enjoy. 767 00:49:07.000 --> 00:49:15.000 So when you eat today, think about anything in your life that is not lining up and proclaim His death until it does. 768 00:49:15.000 --> 00:49:21.000 Stop relying on yourself and start relying on Jesus. 769 00:49:21.000 --> 00:49:26.000 When you receive these elements, we're going to eat in faith. 770 00:49:26.000 --> 00:49:33.000 And you got to love our volunteers.
