God is speaking to Moses and Moses is on Mount Sinai 15 00:01:11.800 --> 00:01:19.960 and they're conversing and Moses brings up the challenge. God, you've been telling 16 00:01:19.960 --> 00:01:24.600 me all this stuff and this is fantastic. But I need to tell the people who 17 00:01:24.600 --> 00:01:30.400 is sending me and there's that famous talk that you've read about and he tells 18 00:01:30.400 --> 00:01:35.600 that I am sent you. So you go down and you tell them that the great self-contained 19 00:01:35.600 --> 00:01:41.600 eternal one who has no beginning to no ending is sending you guys out of Egypt 20 00:01:41.600 --> 00:01:46.600 and into the promised land. And you would think that that's enough. Moses 21 00:01:46.600 --> 00:01:52.600 sees the burning bush. He hears God's voice. He sees the after glow. But isn't 22 00:01:52.600 --> 00:01:57.600 it amazing? Moses presses the envelope and I'm glad he did. Moses, like any curious 23 00:01:57.600 --> 00:02:02.600 kid would say, and I think God, I'm going to tell you, I think God smiled. 24 00:02:02.600 --> 00:02:09.600 I think God, his heart got warm when Moses said in Exodus chapter 33 verse 18, 25 00:02:09.600 --> 00:02:18.600 please show me your glory. Show me your glory. And that word glory is amazing. 26 00:02:18.600 --> 00:02:22.600 That word means essence. Look at the meaning of the word in Hebrew. Show me your 27 00:02:22.600 --> 00:02:26.600 essence. He's asking me. I want to know the essence of who you are. 28 00:02:26.600 --> 00:02:34.600 Your matter as in weighty. Who you are behind the veil. Who are you? 29 00:02:34.600 --> 00:02:39.600 All this is fantastic, but I've got to know you personally. The one who is behind 30 00:02:39.600 --> 00:02:45.600 it all, the one who is abounding you, who is honor you, who is fierce. I like 31 00:02:45.600 --> 00:02:50.600 that because it's not a fierceness to attack you. It's a fierceness to defend 32 00:02:50.600 --> 00:02:59.600 you. I love that. The one that's immovable. Show me your glory. So church, as we 33 00:02:59.600 --> 00:03:04.600 look at this, we are going to be ending this portion of Scripture with a grand 34 00:03:04.600 --> 00:03:10.600 hope and understanding that God has for us glory in the end. You might want to 35 00:03:10.600 --> 00:03:14.600 mark this down if you would. That's not an Old Testament argument alone. First, 36 00:03:14.600 --> 00:03:20.600 John 2 verses 2 and 3. It's a beautiful thing to want the glory of God. I personally 37 00:03:20.600 --> 00:03:25.600 believe I may be wrong, but I personally believe that every true Christian, how do 38 00:03:25.600 --> 00:03:30.600 you know if somebody is a true Christian? I think every true Christian has the 39 00:03:30.600 --> 00:03:39.600 constant abiding inside of themselves longing for glory, meaning God's presence. 40 00:03:39.600 --> 00:03:44.600 If you knew today that you could have God's presence, would you take it? Would you 41 00:03:44.600 --> 00:03:49.600 go for it? Listen, God says this in the Bible. Beloved, now we are children of God 42 00:03:49.600 --> 00:03:54.600 and it has not been yet revealed what we shall be like, but we know that when he 43 00:03:54.600 --> 00:03:59.600 is revealed, that is, when he comes, we shall be like him. For we shall see him 44 00:03:59.600 --> 00:04:06.600 as he is and everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself as he is pure. 45 00:04:06.600 --> 00:04:11.600 What is the hope that Christ is coming back and we are going to be with him? How does 46 00:04:11.600 --> 00:04:18.600 that affect us? We live for him now. Listen, the true Christian longs to be with God 47 00:04:18.600 --> 00:04:22.600 in heaven. Don't get me wrong. I don't have some death wish. I'm not saying let's end it 48 00:04:22.600 --> 00:04:26.600 now. What I'm saying is God has numbered our days and we're going to live those days 49 00:04:26.600 --> 00:04:31.600 until he calls his home. That's the Christian heart. So we want to make the best of 50 00:04:31.600 --> 00:04:36.600 our days for God. That's going to make for a thrilling life, by the way. Think 51 00:04:36.600 --> 00:04:41.600 about all the things that God has given you in life. Whatever that thing is, God says 52 00:04:41.600 --> 00:04:47.600 all that I've given you is to have you through this life I've given you, advance 53 00:04:47.600 --> 00:04:54.600 the hope of glory, the hope of salvation, the hope of eternal life, to tell other 54 00:04:54.600 --> 00:05:00.600 people, to let them know. And when you think about that, it's quite remarkable. 55 00:05:00.600 --> 00:05:05.600 Who are we talking about? Is sharing forever with Jesus. And I'm talking about the 56 00:05:05.600 --> 00:05:11.600 Jesus of the Bible. Colossians chapter 2, verse 9. Very powerful verse. Colossians 2, 57 00:05:11.600 --> 00:05:17.600 verse 9 regarding Jesus Christ, this is for in Christ, lives all the fullness of God 58 00:05:17.600 --> 00:05:22.600 in a human body. Did you know that? God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy 59 00:05:22.600 --> 00:05:30.600 Spirit. But God revealed Himself to us in Jesus Christ the Son. Listen, when Jesus 60 00:05:30.600 --> 00:05:35.600 spoke the sermon on the mount, one of the beautiful things he said was the mount or 61 00:05:35.600 --> 00:05:41.600 on the mount of the attitudes, he gave a blessed, blessed are you blessed. And he says, 62 00:05:41.600 --> 00:05:48.600 blessed are the pure and heart for they shall see God. A good theologian right now 63 00:05:48.600 --> 00:05:52.600 is going to stop and say, wait a minute. What does that really mean? It means exactly 64 00:05:52.600 --> 00:05:55.600 what Jesus says it means. Yeah, but how is that going to happen? Because there's 65 00:05:55.600 --> 00:05:59.600 God the Father and God the Son, I get that. But how are you going to see God the 66 00:05:59.600 --> 00:06:04.600 Spirit? And that's a good question. We don't know how it's going to happen except 67 00:06:04.600 --> 00:06:09.600 this. When you arrive into heaven, you're going to see the glory of God and the 68 00:06:09.600 --> 00:06:14.600 glory of God is going to see God in this totality. How will we see the Spirit, 69 00:06:14.600 --> 00:06:20.600 the Son and the Father? I don't know, but we will. That ought to freak you out for a good 70 00:06:20.600 --> 00:06:26.600 while. That ought to get you excited. Blessed are the pure and heart for they shall see 71 00:06:26.600 --> 00:06:33.600 God. And that is the totality of who he is. In the meantime, Christ came into this world 72 00:06:33.600 --> 00:06:39.600 to reveal God to us, that God became flesh and came into this world. I'm indebted 73 00:06:40.600 --> 00:06:45.600 to our friend Eric Mataxis who gave us this quote when he was here last and it's in his 74 00:06:45.600 --> 00:06:53.600 book, Letter to the American Church. But it's a quote from Abraham Kuiper and I've never 75 00:06:53.600 --> 00:07:00.600 heard it before. But I love it. There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human 76 00:07:00.600 --> 00:07:08.600 existence over which Christ, who is sovereign overall, does not cry mine. And I like 77 00:07:08.600 --> 00:07:15.600 that. That's scriptural because the Bible says in Psalm 24 verse 1, the earth is the 78 00:07:15.600 --> 00:07:22.600 lords in all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. Think about that. With 79 00:07:22.600 --> 00:07:26.600 all that's going on in the world, by the way, friends, listen, you may be upset with what's 80 00:07:26.600 --> 00:07:31.600 happened in the world. You're not more upset than God is. God's hurt. His heart's broken 81 00:07:31.600 --> 00:07:35.600 over all the horrible things that are taking place in the world. He said, was he doing something 82 00:07:35.600 --> 00:07:40.600 about it? He did something about it. He's doing something about it and he's going to do something 83 00:07:40.600 --> 00:07:46.600 about it. He's made that very clear in his Bible. But when we look around and we see the 84 00:07:46.600 --> 00:07:54.600 things that are going on, understand this. God is presiding over it all. According to the 85 00:07:54.600 --> 00:08:00.600 scriptures, things are working to a very specific time and place and intersection, almost like 86 00:08:00.600 --> 00:08:05.600 a geometry or in some form of artwork where these two things intersect or they come to a 87 00:08:05.600 --> 00:08:11.600 point of infinite meeting where these two separates come together in an distance over time, 88 00:08:11.600 --> 00:08:20.600 become one. God knows exactly what he's doing. The Bible also says, and I love this, 89 00:08:20.600 --> 00:08:26.600 please mark it, in Acts chapter 4 verse 11. I'm going to read from Acts 4, 11, and then 90 00:08:26.600 --> 00:08:31.600 I'm going to jump to Philippians 2 verse 7 because they go together so beautifully. 91 00:08:31.600 --> 00:08:39.600 I'm going to talk about the glory of God. Mark this down. This is the stone which was rejected 92 00:08:39.600 --> 00:08:44.600 by you builders. This is Peter speaking on the day that he's preaching at the southern 93 00:08:44.600 --> 00:08:50.600 steps there in Jerusalem, which has become the chief corner store. Nor is there salvation 94 00:08:50.600 --> 00:08:55.600 in the other. What a statement. Acts 4, 12 says, you can't be saved without Jesus Christ. 95 00:08:55.600 --> 00:09:03.600 Isn't that, the Bible still narrow-minded? Well, the Bible is not narrow-minded, but is the 96 00:09:03.600 --> 00:09:09.600 Bible narrow? Yes. How many times do you want God to come into this world and die in a cross? 97 00:09:09.600 --> 00:09:16.600 Well, he's only going to do it once. For there is no other name under heaven given among 98 00:09:16.600 --> 00:09:21.600 men whereby we must be saved. That's crystal clear. Philippians 2 verse 7, 99 00:09:21.600 --> 00:09:30.600 who coming in the likeness of men or mankind and being found in appearance as a man, a human. 100 00:09:30.600 --> 00:09:36.600 That's a huge statement just there. Are you guys with me? Philippians 2, 7, already tells 101 00:09:36.600 --> 00:09:42.600 you that Jesus in essence was not a human. He was God. It was a big deal for him to come into 102 00:09:42.600 --> 00:09:49.600 this world and become a man. What a wild, awesome thing. Verse 8, and being found in the 103 00:09:49.600 --> 00:09:55.600 appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death. 104 00:09:55.600 --> 00:10:00.600 Even to the death of the cross, friends, none of us humble ourselves to the point of death. 105 00:10:00.600 --> 00:10:10.600 We're going to die. We don't choose to die. We die. Jesus chose to die. What an argument. 106 00:10:10.600 --> 00:10:15.600 Verse 9, therefore God has highly exalted him and given the name which is above every name, 107 00:10:15.600 --> 00:10:21.600 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. I hope you've done that. Of those in heaven, 108 00:10:21.600 --> 00:10:27.600 those on earth, and those under the earth, the spirit realm. And that every tongue should confess 109 00:10:27.600 --> 00:10:34.600 that Jesus Christ is Lord to the what? Glory of God the Father. 110 00:10:34.600 --> 00:10:41.600 Blaze Pascal said this, not only do we not know God except through Jesus Christ, 111 00:10:41.600 --> 00:10:47.600 we do not even know ourselves except through Jesus Christ. What an awesome statement. 112 00:10:47.600 --> 00:10:52.600 The great reformer Martin Luther said this, and I love this quote by the way. He said, 113 00:10:52.600 --> 00:11:00.600 I feel as if Jesus Christ died only yesterday. You think about that statement for a moment. 114 00:11:00.600 --> 00:11:07.600 Whatever's going on in your life, keep this in mind. Luther, who was sold out to religion 115 00:11:07.600 --> 00:11:13.600 and to all the requirements of the Catholic Church, was their star monk and all that he was doing 116 00:11:13.600 --> 00:11:20.600 in whatever monks do. He was the guy and then he started pondering and thinking and reading the Bible for himself. 117 00:11:20.600 --> 00:11:26.600 And he came to the conclusion, wait a minute, it's not about religion. It's about knowing Jesus personally. 118 00:11:26.600 --> 00:11:31.600 In his understanding of scripture, transform the world. It transformed your life. 119 00:11:31.600 --> 00:11:37.600 You here, you may have never even heard of Martin Luther, but that great reformer, that German theologian, 120 00:11:37.600 --> 00:11:43.600 transformed the direction of the Western world and that forever. Why? He went right back to the Bible. 121 00:11:43.600 --> 00:11:53.600 Just the Bible. And set him free. And when he says, I feel as if Jesus Christ died only yesterday. 122 00:11:53.600 --> 00:12:01.600 I have to say amen to that. God wants you and I to experience your relationship with him that is so active in current 123 00:12:01.600 --> 00:12:11.600 that it says though, Jesus died yesterday. It says though, he just left. And no, by the way, it seems as though he's coming back soon. 124 00:12:11.600 --> 00:12:18.600 You see, Jack, how can you say that? Because listen, the believer, Christ now lives inside the believer's heart. 125 00:12:18.600 --> 00:12:25.600 We walk, we do, we work, we eat, we sleep. It's a life now that is controlled by Jesus friends. 126 00:12:25.600 --> 00:12:30.600 If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to know what I'm talking about. 127 00:12:30.600 --> 00:12:36.600 That God wants you to throw your life wide open to him and say, come on, just have me come in. 128 00:12:36.600 --> 00:12:43.600 Have me take over. I'm your creator. I'm your designer. I'm your architect. I'm the one that loves you. 129 00:12:44.600 --> 00:12:51.600 And open up the doors of your heart and now come in. And you know what? You'll walk with Jesus on a day-to-day basis, day in, day out. 130 00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:58.600 Listen, he'll never leave you. Once you open up your heart, your life, he comes in, you'll know it, and he'll never leave you. 131 00:12:58.600 --> 00:13:05.600 You'll never, ever again feel like you're lonely. In fact, as, look, believers know what I'm about to say. 132 00:13:05.600 --> 00:13:12.600 As a Christian, now we try to find an opportunity to get alone. 133 00:13:12.600 --> 00:13:19.600 We want to be alone because when we're alone, we're with him. He'll never leave you or forsake you, says the Bible. 134 00:13:19.600 --> 00:13:26.600 Why? Because he's got a desire to bring you into glory. He died on the cross for the sins of the entire world. 135 00:13:26.600 --> 00:13:32.600 He said, I don't believe. Listen, I understand that. He still died for you. If you don't go to heaven, that's your business. 136 00:13:32.600 --> 00:13:46.600 But he wants you there. He wants you to experience his glory. And if I can stand at the base of a mighty waterfall and feel so insignificant as the roar of all of that water comes crashing down, 137 00:13:46.600 --> 00:13:55.600 and you just feel like you're like a flea compared to the power of that water. What about God when he shakes the earth or God when he speaks? 138 00:13:55.600 --> 00:14:05.600 What about when the heavens part in Christ returns? It's going to happen, people. And when it does, will it be a joyous moment for you? Or will it be a terrifying moment for you? 139 00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:14.600 God wants you to have it to be a glorious moment for you. We're talking about a transformation of your entire life from the inside out. 140 00:14:14.600 --> 00:14:23.600 No church can do this. No denomination can do this. A pastor, a priest, a pope cannot do this. It's got to be between you and Jesus. 141 00:14:23.600 --> 00:14:36.600 And so, yes, Luther, I agree. It's as though Jesus only died and rose again from the dead yesterday. Why? Because he's so close. He is so close. 142 00:14:37.600 --> 00:14:43.600 And so, this is our third and final installment, and we'll be done. It's this. Just don't look at the Bible and all of the things that it says, 144 00:14:49.600 --> 00:15:00.600 and those wonderful verses and passages, and all of those incredible accounts of great feats of faith, enjoy it. 145 00:15:00.600 --> 00:15:10.600 Now, somewhere along the line, I'll flub it up somehow, but if I remember somewhat correctly, the Westminster shorter catechism says something to the effect, 146 00:15:10.600 --> 00:15:24.600 what is man's chief purpose? Man's chief purpose is to know God and to enjoy Him forever. God wants you to enjoy Him. 147 00:15:24.600 --> 00:15:33.600 And He calls this errors. To be an error means that you are left something from someone who, first of all, has something. 148 00:15:33.600 --> 00:15:40.600 If you don't have anything, you don't have any errors. You may have people in your life, but you can't give them anything. 149 00:15:40.600 --> 00:15:52.600 Lisa's got a teacup collection. I remember some years ago we had a living trust made up, and the issue, and like page 9, is the teacups. 150 00:15:52.600 --> 00:16:06.600 For real. Who gets the teacups? And I didn't have any input. I don't care about those things. She does. Okay, but I do have a perfect 1967 Volkswagen from Wolfsburg, Germany, that's in perfect condition. 152 00:16:21.600 --> 00:16:28.600 At one, at the steam a queen car show, I've had it since I was about 19 years old, 20 years old. 153 00:16:28.600 --> 00:16:37.600 The cutest thing in the world gets about a thousand miles to a gallon. And not only you, he says, your joint errors with Christ. Okay, this is, I'm going to give you the theology of it, but I don't have the faith to wrap my mind and heart around it. 157 00:17:18.600 --> 00:17:30.600 I don't get it. I just know it's true. God the Father has bestowed upon His Son post-resurrection to be the recipient of all that God has. 158 00:17:30.600 --> 00:17:49.600 In that, though, is that He represents all of us who believe. Jesus receives from His Father the resurrected Christ, the God-man. If I had a hundred-dollar bill, and I said, okay, you guys get, you guys get to inherit this. Knock yourself out. By the time you got to it, you'd get like a quarter of a penny of it with the people that are in this group, just this service. The Bible doesn't teach that. 161 00:18:17.600 --> 00:18:36.600 The Bible teaches that the kingdom that Christ brings to us is not divvied up. Here, you get this much, and then you get this much. No, no, no, no. Each individual who trusts Christ, whose name is written down on the Lamb book of life, receives all that Christ has received from the Father. 162 00:18:36.600 --> 00:18:43.600 No wonder why the Bible says he gives us eternal life. It's going to be amazing.
