Well, that's a good question and how much time do you have for me to answer. So whether it's preparing the ordinances for the city council to approve and adopt into law 32 00:02:59.920 --> 00:03:05.280 or do the research for the city council to let them know basically what's legal, what's not legal. 33 00:03:05.920 --> 00:03:12.000 But in addition to that, we prosecute crime. We defend our city from all civil suits and we 34 00:03:12.000 --> 00:03:18.160 do that in-house. I personally try those cases. So just last year alone, we tried a few cases and 35 00:03:18.160 --> 00:03:24.240 one of which was a very large police shooting case that I tried in court and defense that case 36 00:03:24.240 --> 00:03:28.080 and defended successfully defended our police officers. So we're defending our police officers, 37 00:03:28.080 --> 00:03:35.680 defending our city. And so it's really all things legal for the city. We've got five children lived in Huntington Beach pretty much my whole life. 47 00:04:30.080 --> 00:04:34.080 I was born in the Midwest, but when I was a small child, my folks moved us here to Huntington Beach. 48 00:04:34.960 --> 00:04:41.760 And I will tell you something, Jack, something kind of struck me in high school. I basically realized in high school, you know, I was going to really go out and make 51 00:04:52.400 --> 00:04:58.080 something with my life. I was going to be one who, who made life happen. And so from that moment forward, I think I was a 53 00:05:02.960 --> 00:05:09.200 junior in high school at the time. So it's an elected position, pretty rare 60 00:05:39.280 --> 00:05:46.080 in California. But I got elected in 2014. And we've been doing some amazing work. And I know you're 61 00:05:46.080 --> 00:05:51.120 going to have some questions about that. But absolutely amazing work for the past 10 years since 14. 62 00:05:51.120 --> 00:05:56.160 Yes. Fighting for the city, fighting for liberty, fighting for freedom, and fighting frankly 63 00:05:56.160 --> 00:06:01.200 against the city of California in a lot of cases. So just a lot of great work. And his family moved from the Midwest to to here for a reason. And I'm sure 71 00:06:41.280 --> 00:06:50.640 they've got their story. Everyone has their story. But I go back way back. I remember Huntington Beach 72 00:06:50.640 --> 00:06:58.080 when I would ride my bike from our house down to Lifeguard Station 4, I would spend my summers 73 00:06:58.720 --> 00:07:05.680 at Lifeguard Station 4. That's just north of the pier. And in those days, the difficult part was 74 00:07:05.680 --> 00:07:11.360 my parents were concerned about getting through Huntington Beach at that time and then getting 75 00:07:11.360 --> 00:07:16.880 home through Huntington Beach at that time on my way back home. Because back in those days, 76 00:07:17.760 --> 00:07:24.240 we're talking about the 70s and the early 80s where Huntington Beach was a drug haven. 77 00:07:24.960 --> 00:07:33.440 It was a place of prostitution. It was a place of a very, very poor leadership. It was a coastal 78 00:07:33.440 --> 00:07:40.880 community that people kind of drove around. And I say all that everybody to to kind of set up 79 00:07:40.880 --> 00:07:47.200 this conversation even further regarding this point. Elections matter. Those who are in charge 80 00:07:47.200 --> 00:07:53.840 matter. And I speak predominantly, not always, but predominantly to a Christian community. And Christian 81 00:07:53.840 --> 00:07:58.800 Christians and Christianity in many respects, I think poorly represented, have somehow come to the 82 00:07:58.800 --> 00:08:03.680 conclusion, well, God is sovereign. And I'm a Christian. And so I'm not going to get involved in the 83 00:08:03.680 --> 00:08:09.360 dirty work of this world. I thank God that Michael and his wife and his family are not like that. 84 00:08:09.360 --> 00:08:15.120 I hope you're not like that because God says in Joshua 2415 choose today whom you'll serve. 85 00:08:15.760 --> 00:08:21.520 So we live in a constitutional republic whereby we can make change by how we vote. You're in 86 00:08:21.520 --> 00:08:30.800 office because this city some time ago set a trajectory to turn things around. Look, I was on a 87 00:08:30.800 --> 00:08:37.680 national radio program this morning before coming down here. And it's typical. The host on the 88 00:08:37.680 --> 00:08:43.040 program was kind of mocking California and how messed up it is and it's the land of Kamala Harris. 89 00:08:43.040 --> 00:08:48.960 And yeah, yeah, okay, get over that. My point was this, there's been a great movement in change 90 00:08:48.960 --> 00:08:59.200 in California. Huntington Beach has seemed to be an epicenter of change since about 2014, maybe even 91 00:08:59.200 --> 00:09:07.760 little earlier, which this this city's been reclaimed. This city is now one of the most conservative 92 00:09:07.760 --> 00:09:16.080 iconic, not only for Orange County, but for California. This place is remarkable. Speak please to us 93 00:09:16.880 --> 00:09:23.360 about how the economy turned around, how the leadership turned around, and how this the police 94 00:09:23.360 --> 00:09:28.880 forced the city council. It's impressive. Yeah, it's a great question. And in 2014 when I got 95 00:09:29.440 --> 00:09:35.440 elected, there was a a feeling in Huntington Beach among the community members that you know 96 00:09:36.400 --> 00:09:40.880 that's the leadership was still off track. And we needed to make a correction. And so we got 97 00:09:40.880 --> 00:09:46.880 some some better leaders elected in 2014. I will tell you that we still continue to struggle. And 98 00:09:46.880 --> 00:09:52.240 as the city attorney, since then I've seen a number of city councils here in Huntington Beach 99 00:09:52.240 --> 00:09:57.600 because every two years there's another election. And so new members come on. And so there's 100 00:09:57.600 --> 00:10:04.160 been some sort of an up and down of leadership. But in 2022, that's when something really magical 101 00:10:04.160 --> 00:10:09.280 happened. And that's when I was on the ballot for reelection. And I went out with four council 102 00:10:09.280 --> 00:10:14.720 members or council candidates at the time to fill four seats. And just so your audience knows 103 00:10:14.720 --> 00:10:21.440 Huntington Beach has seven city council seats. And so every other year or every election cycle, 104 00:10:22.320 --> 00:10:27.920 three or four are up for election just depending on the cycle. In 2022, it was four. So we had 105 00:10:27.920 --> 00:10:34.800 Tony Strickland running Gracie Van Merck Pat Burns and Casey McKee and in 2022, I knew that we 106 00:10:34.800 --> 00:10:39.200 literally had to step up our game in terms of campaigning. We really had to get the message up to 107 00:10:39.200 --> 00:10:45.200 the community. And so and you know, Pastor Joe Pettic, I know your friends with and so many other 108 00:10:45.200 --> 00:10:50.080 people in Huntington Beach. So many other people in Huntington Beach, we all came together and said, 109 00:10:50.080 --> 00:10:56.080 you know what, we have got to really save our city and change the trajectory. And we did that and we 110 00:10:56.080 --> 00:11:01.280 won overwhelmingly in 2022. And we're trying to continue that now here in 24 with the new 111 00:11:01.280 --> 00:11:06.960 candidates that are up who were supporting Chad Williams done Kennedy and butch twining. And what 112 00:11:06.960 --> 00:11:13.760 we're doing here, Jack is we are literally trying to stand up for our community, but that oftentimes 113 00:11:13.760 --> 00:11:19.680 means means standing up against the state of California. And so we're fighting. We're fighting for 114 00:11:19.680 --> 00:11:26.960 freedom and liberty, like I said earlier. And it's just such an important battle. And people are 115 00:11:26.960 --> 00:11:30.960 starting to see Huntington Beach as the land of the free and the home of the brave in California. 116 00:11:30.960 --> 00:11:39.680 We saw that during COVID. And so we certainly saw that in the 2020 election and remarkable. 117 00:11:41.120 --> 00:11:47.840 Let's let's let's dive into this without saying it. I don't think he said it. And it's not just Democrat. This is dangerous. Wacknut Democrat views. And so Newsom, 120 00:12:07.120 --> 00:12:15.600 by Fiat declares that cities are not allowed to check for ballots, voting ID 121 00:12:18.640 --> 00:12:24.000 because he doesn't want voter integrity. Gavin Newsom of his own, if he was sitting at this 122 00:12:24.000 --> 00:12:28.320 table right now, he would have to say that's why that's why I made it an edict by the office of 123 00:12:28.320 --> 00:12:33.520 the governor. I don't want voter integrity. That's there's another conclusion. He was actually saying, 124 00:12:34.240 --> 00:12:40.160 I am going to stick it to Huntington Beach. I am going to let them have it. In fact, I'm so upset at 125 00:12:40.160 --> 00:12:45.760 them. This is what a narcissist does. A narcissist just throws a blanket over the entire state. What in why was he so and why is he so upset with Huntington Beach 127 00:12:53.360 --> 00:13:03.600 with you, with these people, because you guys wanted to ensure voter integrity. Well, Huntington Beach, I think has been frankly sick about the progressive policies in 129 00:13:10.800 --> 00:13:16.400 California that have impacted our city for years. And this new city council, as of 2022 said, 130 00:13:16.400 --> 00:13:20.320 you know what? Enough is enough. We are going to start implementing our proposing policies to 131 00:13:20.320 --> 00:13:24.160 the voter and implementing our own policies at the city council level that are just common sense. 132 00:13:24.160 --> 00:13:30.080 Amen. And so one of the things that they did, the city council did with the leadership of Pat 133 00:13:30.080 --> 00:13:34.560 Burns and Tony Strickland and Gracie and Casey, is say, you know what? We're going to put it to the 134 00:13:34.560 --> 00:13:40.960 voter here in March of 2024. So right. So in our primary, just this just a few months ago, 135 00:13:40.960 --> 00:13:46.320 it was put to the voter, do you want certain election integrity measures built into our city 136 00:13:47.040 --> 00:13:53.360 and the voters overwhelmingly passed, like you mentioned, voter ID, but also 20 new in-person polling 137 00:13:53.360 --> 00:13:58.640 places, because as you remember with COVID, the COVID shutdown, the governor basically said, you know 138 00:13:58.640 --> 00:14:02.560 what? We're going to, we're basically going to cancel in-person voting and we're going to have 139 00:14:02.560 --> 00:14:07.520 everybody vote by mail, right? Well, we're bringing that back. We're bringing in 20 new polling places 140 00:14:07.520 --> 00:14:12.080 throughout the city and then also monitoring of ballot drop boxes with cameras and other things. 141 00:14:12.080 --> 00:14:18.400 So the voters pass those measures. It upset Governor Newsom so much that they just passed this 142 00:14:18.400 --> 00:14:22.960 new law saying, well, we're going to outlaw voter ID. Well, what Governor Newsom's going to find 143 00:14:22.960 --> 00:14:27.600 out in Attorney General's Obonta is going to find out very, very soon here. Yes. Is that Huntington 144 00:14:27.600 --> 00:14:33.440 Beach as a charter city has a constitutional right to implement these measures because it's in 145 00:14:33.440 --> 00:14:37.600 the California Constitution Article 11 Section 5, if you want to look it up yourself. It literally 146 00:14:37.600 --> 00:14:43.600 says charter cities have a constitutional right to control their city elections. I don't know if 147 00:14:43.600 --> 00:14:47.520 Newsom knows that. I don't know if Bonta knows that, but he's going to find out really soon. So 148 00:14:47.520 --> 00:14:53.600 Huntington Beach has a constitutional right. The state legislature and Newsom cannot chip away 149 00:14:53.600 --> 00:14:58.480 at our constitutional rights. If, if, if that's ever going to change, if Huntington Beach or other 150 00:14:58.480 --> 00:15:03.600 charter cities don't have a constitutional right to implement or control their implement measures or 151 00:15:03.600 --> 00:15:09.440 control their local elections, it's going to require a constitutional amendment, not a state law. 152 00:15:09.440 --> 00:15:14.720 So there's a there's an awakening coming into the governor. And our California Constitution is 153 00:15:14.720 --> 00:15:19.200 going to mean something. It does mean something to us. It doesn't mean much to them, but they're 154 00:15:19.200 --> 00:15:23.360 going to find out it means something very, very soon. Well, so well said. And what's going to happen 155 00:15:23.360 --> 00:15:31.120 is because again, you know, this is not some philosophical dream of about to remind you guys of, 156 00:15:31.120 --> 00:15:38.400 but there is something within what is called the American. It doesn't matter because we live in 157 00:15:38.400 --> 00:15:46.720 a region by the way where there are a tremendous amounts of legal immigrants here who have come 158 00:15:46.720 --> 00:15:53.040 to make a tremendous living and impact. And they love the fact that they live in a constitutional 159 00:15:53.040 --> 00:15:58.560 republic. They can't believe that they're able to flee from their previous country that they 160 00:15:58.560 --> 00:16:03.680 were born in and to have a home and a life here. And so Gavin Newsom sent down to our school board meeting to interrupt 171 00:17:09.360 --> 00:17:21.760 Tony Thurman, who is the state superintendent of schools. And our president held order and 172 00:17:21.760 --> 00:17:28.000 how the meetings to be conducted and the citizens escorted Thurman out of the building. 173 00:17:29.040 --> 00:17:34.160 Newsom is doing this kind of activity because he's losing ground. But just about every weekend, you can drive 181 00:18:18.480 --> 00:18:25.040 down Pacific Coast Highway and come up on Main Street where the pier is at. We had lunch at Duke's. And I can tell you that Chad Williams, a youth pastor, also a former Navy seal. Just 196 00:19:47.200 --> 00:19:51.680 he's got his head on straight. And he's not afraid, right? He's not afraid.
