That it was written to a group of really down and 51 00:04:57.440 --> 00:05:04.160 now discouraged believers. They were Jewish Christians. They were ostracized. They were cast 52 00:05:04.160 --> 00:05:09.040 away. They were ostracized socially. They were ostracized financially. They weren't even allowed 53 00:05:09.040 --> 00:05:13.920 to trade at the markets and years and years of that had taken their toll and they were on the 54 00:05:13.920 --> 00:05:21.520 verge of quitting. The main theme of the book of Hebrews is, don't quit. Do not forsake your faith. 55 00:05:21.520 --> 00:05:27.760 Do not bail out. Keep hanging on. Keep believing. And I like to read it often and remind myself of 56 00:05:27.760 --> 00:05:32.320 that often because no matter how bad things are going for me in that particular moment, it's never 57 00:05:32.320 --> 00:05:38.080 as bad as it was for first century Jewish Christians who are ostracized in every way. That's why in Acts chapter two, when Peter is preaching and he's referencing 83 00:08:20.160 --> 00:08:25.840 Joel and Joel says, in the last days, I will pour out my spirit, says the Lord, it's talking about 84 00:08:25.840 --> 00:08:30.800 this period right now, the church age, which now has been going on for 2,000 years. By the way, 85 00:08:30.800 --> 00:08:37.680 do you know how long most of these ages, actually every single one of them, how long they've lasted? 86 00:08:38.160 --> 00:08:45.040 About 2,000 years. That's another sermon, but I can't do that. I can take you through all the ages 87 00:08:45.040 --> 00:08:55.200 and show you that they're always last 2,000 years. So if we're in the last days, it's been about 88 00:08:55.200 --> 00:09:00.880 2,000 years, that shows me that we're in the last, there's no other church age. Now there's several titles that are given to Jesus in the book of Hebrews that don't really 96 00:09:49.040 --> 00:09:55.040 make sense when you just look at it in the natural, like air of all things. What is an air of all 97 00:09:55.040 --> 00:09:59.840 things? If my son was here, I would say here's the air of all things. You would understand, 98 00:09:59.840 --> 00:10:03.280 oh, you're talking about how when you die, you're going to leave everything to your son. But God, 99 00:10:03.280 --> 00:10:09.840 the Father isn't dying. So what does air of all things mean? There's another title put a pin in 100 00:10:09.840 --> 00:10:16.080 that. There's another title given to Jesus, first born. Several times it references him and calls him 101 00:10:16.080 --> 00:10:21.280 first born, first born from the dead. What does that mean? Who's the second born, third born? There's 102 00:10:21.280 --> 00:10:28.640 no second born or third born or fourth born. First century Hebrews will understand that air of all 103 00:10:28.640 --> 00:10:36.880 things or first born is just a title that means preeminent, supreme. Has in these last days spoken to us by his son, whom he has appointed 105 00:10:44.960 --> 00:10:53.760 air of all things through whom also he made the worlds in the Greek eons where we get eon. Hallelujah. Verse three, who being the brightness of his glory, yes, here's the word 109 00:11:19.840 --> 00:11:32.480 in the Greek for brightness. It's apalgazma which means radiance. That's a real thing.
